AG Peshawar AGAPE Trust launched its Vocational Skills Development Programme in 2011 to equip young people, women, and men from marginalized communities with practical and market-relevant skills. The programme primarily serves underprivileged communities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and aims to create sustainable pathways toward employment, self-employment, and financial independence. From 2011 to 2021, more than 5,000 individuals benefited from vocational training opportunities provided through the programme. Training is offered in a diverse range of trades, including sewing, beautician services, haircutting, driving, computer courses, Diploma in Information Technology (DIT), e-commerce, web design, and medical and allied health courses such as Lady Health Visitor (LHV), ultrasound technician, laboratory technician, and anesthesia-related training. These trades are selected because they offer practical earning opportunities, are not heavily dependent on seasonal demand, and can help participants secure employment or establish small businesses.
The programme continued to expand between 2023 and 2025. In 2023, 103 beneficiaries were admitted across eight vocational trades. In 2024, 87 participants successfully graduated from training programmes conducted in Peshawar and Abbottabad. During 2025, 134 participants were enrolled, of whom 114 successfully graduated, representing an overall completion rate of 85%. The 2025 enrolment included 37 participants in sewing, 49 in beautician courses, 11 in DIT, four in LHV, and four in ultrasound training, while the remaining participants were enrolled in other approved vocational trades. A 10% participation quota was also provided for students from AG Grammar School.
The programme goes beyond technical instruction by helping participants develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and project-completion skills. Regular interaction with instructors and peers creates a positive learning environment that strengthens confidence and prepares participants for workplace challenges. Graduates are better positioned to find employment, establish small enterprises, and earn a dependable livelihood for their families. Through this initiative, AG Peshawar AGAPE Trust contributes to poverty reduction, social inclusion, and sustainable community development. The success of programme graduates benefits not only the participants and their families but also inspires other community members to pursue skills development and economic independence.
